Hydraulic Trailer Brake Assembly Pair

Pair – 10" Hydraulic Free Backing Brake Assemblies – Dacromet Coated – 3500 lb

A left and right pair of 10" x 2-1/4" hydraulic free backing trailer brake assemblies with Dacromet-coated backing plates for many 3,500 lb axle applications.

Part Number: AKFBBRK-35-PAIR-DACRO 10" x 2-1/4" 3500 lb Axle

Overview

This brake assembly pair is designed for hydraulic drum brake trailer systems using 10" x 2-1/4" brakes on many 3,500 lb axles. The kit includes one left-hand and one right-hand free backing assembly, making it a practical replacement option when servicing both sides of one braked axle. The Dacromet-coated backing plates offer improved corrosion resistance for trailers exposed to water, road spray, snow, and seasonal use.

R&P Service Insight

Free backing hydraulic brakes are especially useful on surge brake trailers where reverse movement can otherwise activate the braking system.

Reverse Control: Free backing design helps the trailer roll backward without brake drag on compatible surge systems.
Better Pair Replacement: Replacing both sides together helps maintain balanced braking performance across the axle.
Corrosion Resistance: Dacromet coating is a strong choice for boat trailers, snowmobile trailers, and moisture-prone applications.

R&P Knowledge Hub

Compatibility: Fits many 3,500 lb trailer axles using 10" x 2-1/4" hydraulic drum brakes and a 4-bolt mounting flange.

Vehicle / System Fit: Commonly used on boat trailers, snowmobile trailers, utility trailers, and other hydraulic surge brake trailer systems.

Installation Notes: Confirm brake size, axle rating, 4-bolt flange pattern, drum compatibility, and left/right orientation before ordering or installing.

Performance Insight: Free backing brakes are designed to reduce brake engagement during reverse travel when used with compatible surge actuators.

Brand & Fitment Note

Selling Brand: R&P Carriages aftermarket replacement brake assembly pair.

Application Reference: Dexter, Lippert, and AL-KO names may describe common axle-style compatibility only where brake size, flange pattern, and system configuration match.

What This Means: This listing is for a left and right pair of hydraulic free backing brake assemblies, not a guaranteed OEM-branded item unless specifically stated and verified.

Before Ordering: Verify brake dimensions, axle rating, mounting flange, hub/drum compatibility, hydraulic system type, and included components before installation.

R&P Repair Insight

When replacing hydraulic brake assemblies, check the full brake system rather than only the backing plates. New brake assemblies may still perform poorly if the drums, actuator, lines, fittings, or wheel cylinders are compromised.

Check the Drum: Inspect the drum surface for scoring, heat damage, wear, or contamination.
Check the Hydraulics: Look for leaking lines, seized fittings, weak actuator output, or air in the system.
Bleed After Install: Hydraulic brakes must be properly bled after installation for safe braking performance.

Features

Left & Right Pair

Includes one left-hand and one right-hand brake assembly for one complete braked axle setup.

Hydraulic Free Backing Design

Allows reverse movement on compatible surge brake systems without unwanted brake engagement.

Dacromet-Coated Backing Plates

Provides improved corrosion resistance compared with standard painted brake assemblies.

Marine & Snow-Use Appropriate

Well suited for boat trailers, snowmobile trailers, and trailers exposed to moisture or road spray.
