Electric brake backing plates integrate the shoes, springs, magnet, and actuating arm into a pre-assembled unit that bolts directly to the axle flange. When voltage is applied from a brake controller, the magnet contacts the rotating drum, causing the shoes to expand against the braking surface. Brake assemblies are side-specific and must be installed on the correct left and right positions. Confirm axle rating, brake size (12" x 2"), flange bolt count, and drum compatibility before ordering.
