How to Measure a Leaf Spring

Correct measurement is critical when replacing a leaf spring. Different spring end styles require different measurement methods, as shown in the reference diagram below.

  • Double Eye Leaf Springs: Measure from mounting point center to mounting point center.
  • Open Eye Leaf Springs: Measure from the mounting point to the furthest inside point of the open eye. Arch height (B) is measured vertically from the spring center to the free length line.
  • Slipper / Hook / Flat / Radius End Springs: Measure from the front mounting bolt to the end of the spring.

Free length is measured with the spring unloaded. Installed length may differ once mounted under vehicle weight.
