Dexter Model 10 Hydraulic Drum Brake Actuator – 3" Adjustable Channel – 12,500 lb – Primed

Part Number: 9050181

This is a complete surge brake actuator solution for trailers using hydraulic drum brakes. The Dexter Model 10 mounts to a standard 3" adjustable channel, allowing flexible coupler setups and proper trailer height alignment across a wide range of towing applications.

R&P Knowledge Hub

Surge braking works by using the forward motion of the trailer during deceleration. As the trailer pushes into the actuator, hydraulic pressure is generated and sent to the drum brakes—no brake controller or electrical signal required.

This actuator mounts to a standard 3" adjustable channel system. This is the most common mounting method on trailers and allows vertical positioning of the coupler for proper level towing.

Compatible with ball couplers (2" and 2-5/16") and lunette/pintle eye setups when installed in a 3" channel. Always verify channel spacing and mounting hole alignment before ordering.

How This System Works (Before You Buy)

This actuator replaces or installs at the front of a trailer tongue and connects directly to your hydraulic brake line system. When your tow vehicle slows down, the trailer compresses into the actuator, which then pushes hydraulic fluid through the brake lines to engage the drum brakes.

This system is commonly used where simplicity and reliability are required, especially in environments where electric brake systems may not be ideal.

What This Fits

This actuator fits trailers equipped with a standard 3" adjustable channel. This includes most modern adjustable-height coupler systems used on utility, equipment, and commercial trailers.

Because the channel system is universal, this actuator works with:

  • 2" ball coupler setups
  • 2-5/16" ball coupler setups
  • Lunette ring / pintle hook systems

What You Must Verify

  • Your trailer uses hydraulic drum brakes (not electric)
  • Your tongue has a standard 3" channel mount
  • Mounting hole spacing matches your channel
  • Your brake lines and drums are in working condition

System Requirements & Exclusions

  • Designed for hydraulic drum brake systems only (not electric brake setups)
  • Brake lines, drums, and hydraulic fluid are not included
  • Coupler installs separately within the 3" adjustable channel

Tow-Ready Checklist

  • Hydraulic brake system installed and bled
  • Actuator mounted securely to channel
  • Coupler properly installed and torqued
  • Trailer sits level when connected to tow vehicle
  • Test braking response before road use

Always verify compatibility and perform a full brake system check before towing.
