Tie Down 86068 Spare Tire Carrier with Removable Eliminator Spindle and Spare Hub
A frame-mounted spare tire carrier that also carries an emergency removable spindle and galvanized 1,750 lb hub assembly for Tie Down Eliminator-style trailer setups.
Overview
The Tie Down 86068 spare tire carrier kit is designed as more than a basic spare tire bracket. It mounts to the trailer frame and includes the Eliminator spindle/tire carrier, removable spindle assembly, 1,750 lb galvanized hub assembly, backing plates, bolts and nyloc nuts. For boat, utility and light-duty trailer owners running compatible Eliminator-style equipment, this gives you a spare tire mount and a major roadside repair component in one kit.
R&P Service Insight
A spare tire solves only part of the roadside problem. If the spindle or hub assembly is damaged, a standard spare wheel may not be enough to get moving again.
- Dual-purpose setup: Carries the spare tire while also storing a removable spindle and spare hub assembly.
- Frame-mounted design: Uses included backing plates and 1/2" hardware to clamp around the trailer frame.
- Multiple frame heights: Backing plate hole patterns are shown for 3", 4" and 5" frame tubes.
R&P Knowledge Hub
What makes this different: This kit is not just a spare tire hanger. It includes a removable Eliminator spindle assembly and a 1,750 lb galvanized hub assembly, giving the trailer owner a more complete roadside backup plan.
Frame fitment: The included rear mounting plates are shown with hole positions for 3", 4" and 5" trailer frame heights. Use the spare tire carrier and spare tire as a guide when choosing the mounting location.
System check: Confirm that your trailer uses the correct Tie Down Eliminator-style spindle/hub arrangement before ordering. This kit should be matched by axle system, frame size, hub pattern and wheel fitment.
R&P Repair Insight
This is the kind of kit that makes the most sense before the failure happens. On a boat trailer or utility trailer, a hub or bearing failure can quickly turn into spindle damage. Carrying a spare tire, spare hub and removable spindle together gives you a stronger recovery path than a tire-only carrier.
- Before installation: Test-fit the bracket location with the spare tire to verify clearance around the trailer frame, tongue, winch stand, jack, fenders and coupler area.
- During installation: Use the backing plate hole pattern that matches your frame height and keep the carrier square to the frame before tightening hardware.
- Before travel: Recheck all mounting hardware and verify the spare wheel clears the trailer body and tow vehicle during turning.

Installation Guide Notes
Use the spare tire carrier and spare tire as a guide to determine a suitable mounting location on the trailer frame.
Select the backing plate hole pattern for the appropriate frame height. The instruction diagram shows 3", 4" and 5" frame positions.
Push two 1/2" bolts through the top of the carrier and position the carrier on top of the trailer frame.
Place the tire mounting plate against the outside of the frame with the 1/2" bolts through the top holes.
Hand-tighten the nyloc nuts, then insert the remaining bolts through the lower holes and tighten the nyloc nuts.
Mount the spare spindle/hub assembly with the washer, castle nut and cotter pin provided, then check tire clearance.
Verification Before Ordering
This kit should be ordered by confirmed system fitment, not by appearance alone. Before purchasing, verify your trailer frame height, wheel and hub pattern, axle/spindle style, and available mounting clearance.
If your trailer does not use the compatible Eliminator removable spindle architecture, the carrier may still appear similar but the spindle assembly may not match your trailer system.
