Oil bath hub caps use removable rubber plugs so the hub oil level can be checkedor serviced without removing the entire cap. The plug seals the center openingto prevent oil leakage and contamination.
Many Dexter oil caps use a 7/8" center plug including models 21-35, 21-36, and21-88. Over time rubber plugs can harden or crack from heat and road exposure.Replacing the plug restores the seal and helps protect hub bearings.
