TRAILER SUSPENSION / INDEPENDENT HALF AXLE

1750lb Torsion Half Axle Right Passenger Side 22 Down 3500 lb Pair 5-4.5 Hubs

A heavy-duty independent suspension solution for trailers, campers, and utility dollies designed for superior ground clearance and customizable floor layouts.

Part Number: 1448734 1,750 lb Capacity 5 on 4.5" Bolt Pattern

Overview

This 1,750 lb torsion half-axle utilizes internal rubber cords to dampen road shock, eliminating the need for leaf springs and shackles. The 22° down starting angle sits the spindle lower than the axle tube, providing roughly 3-4 inches of extra frame lift compared to neutral axles—perfect for off-road builds or trailers requiring high ground clearance.

R&P Service Insight

Half axles are a "fabricator's favorite" because they allow for open-center trailer designs. However, precision during installation is key to tire longevity.

  • Trailing Arm: Must be installed so the arm points toward the REAR of the trailer.
  • Mounting: Ensure the trailer frame is reinforced; half axles concentrate torque on a smaller area than full axles.
  • Ride Height: Expect the 22° down angle to level out toward 0° when the trailer is fully loaded.

R&P Knowledge Hub

Compatibility: Standard 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern fits most 13", 14", and 15" trailer wheels.

Suspension Style: Progressive rate rubber torsion provides a quieter, smoother ride than traditional leaf springs.

Installation Notes: This is the Passenger Side axle. It must be paired with the corresponding Driver Side unit to achieve a 3,500 lb GVWR.

Independent Travel: Since each side is independent, road bumps on one side will not affect the stability of the opposite wheel.

R&P Build Insight

Measuring for "Fit" is critical when using torsion half axles in custom projects.

  • Stub Length: Verify the 24" length from the hub face to the tube end fits your frame width.
  • Alignment: Use a string or laser to ensure the spindles are perfectly perpendicular to the trailer tongue to prevent tire scrub.
  • Brake Ready: Includes a standard flange for 10" brake assemblies (Electric or Hydraulic).

Features

22° Down High Clearance

Optimized for off-road or high-profile trailers, providing 3-4 inches of additional lift over neutral axles.

Maintenance-Free Cords

Four natural rubber cords inside the tube provide the spring rate without any metal-on-metal wear points.

Integrated Brake Flange

Features a standard flange, making it easy to add 10" electric or hydraulic brakes.

Open Center Design

Eliminates the center axle beam, allowing for drop-floors, water tanks, or lower cargo storage areas.

Safety Note: Torsion axles must be oriented correctly so the torsion arm trails behind the axle tube. Installing these as "leading arms" (pointing forward) will result in suspension failure and loss of control. Ensure your trailer frame is capable of handling independent torsion mounting.
