Cold-Weather 7-Way Trailer Electrical Refresh Kit
Built for trailers using a 7-way RV blade connection, this cold-weather electrical refresh kit brings together three practical components for cleaning up and refreshing the wiring at the front of your trailer.
At the center of the kit is our J-JB-8FT Arctic Blue 8 ft pre-wired cord and junction box, designed to remain flexible in severe cold and provide an organized termination point for trailer lighting, brake, ground, auxiliary and 12V circuits. The kit also includes a J-ELEC emergency breakaway switch and an EPACH plug and safety-chain holder for a cleaner, more serviceable trailer tongue setup.

Why Build the Kit Around Arctic Blue?
Cold weather is particularly hard on trailer wiring. Conventional cord jackets can become stiff, difficult to route and more vulnerable to cracking as temperatures fall. The J-JB-8FT uses an Arctic Blue cold-weather cord rated from -40°C to +105°C and a molded 7-way RV blade connector designed for demanding trailer service.

Heavy-Duty 7-Way Wiring
The J-JB-8FT is pre-wired with heavier conductors where trailer electrical loads demand them. The junction box provides labeled termination points so the trailer harness can be connected and serviced without building the entire front harness from individual wire.

Important: Do not depend on wire color alone when rewiring a trailer. Trailer manufacturers and previous repairs may use different color conventions. Identify and test each circuit before making final connections.
Breakaway Switch Refresh
The included J-ELEC is the switch portion of a trailer emergency breakaway system. If the trailer separates from the tow vehicle, the pull cable removes the switch pin and allows the trailer's onboard breakaway battery circuit to energize the electric brakes.

Important breakaway-system note: J-ELEC is a replacement switch. It does not replace the breakaway battery, battery box, charger or the remainder of the breakaway system. Before installation, verify that the trailer has the required compatible breakaway power source and that the complete emergency braking system is properly wired and functional.
Clean Up the Trailer Tongue
The included EPACH plug and safety-chain holder provides a simple dedicated storage point for the trailer's 7-way plug and safety chains when the trailer is parked or disconnected.
Keeping the electrical connector off the ground helps protect it from dirt, moisture and unnecessary abuse, while supporting the safety chains keeps them from simply dragging or hanging around the coupler area.

Verify Connector Style: This kit is intended for trailers using the common 7-way RV-style blade connection.

Check Cord Length: Confirm that an 8 ft trailer-side cord provides the correct reach from the junction-box mounting location to the tow vehicle.

Check Junction-Box Space: The J-JB-8FT uses mounting tabs with approximately 7-3/8" center-to-center mounting-hole spacing.

Verify Every Circuit: Test circuit function rather than assuming existing trailer wire colors follow a standard.

Check Breakaway Requirements: Verify the trailer's breakaway battery, wiring and brake system in addition to the included switch.

Route the Breakaway Cable Correctly: The cable should attach independently to the tow vehicle and have a clear path capable of pulling the switch pin during an actual separation.

Check EPACH Clearance: Mount the holder where it will not interfere with the coupler, jack operation, safety-chain reach or normal articulation.

A trailer electrical refresh is more than replacing the plug. The best time to install a new cord is also the time to inspect the ground circuit, brake wiring, breakaway system, junction points and exposed wiring along the frame.
