Dexter 8K Axle Beam Kit – 81" Hub Face – 3.5" Tube – Straight Camber – 4 Bolt Flange – Wired – EZ Lube

Dexter 8,000 lb D80N narrow spring axle beam kit with 81" hub face, 3.5" tube, 4-bolt brake flanges, camber, wiring, EZ Lube spindles, and loose spring perches included.

Part Number: 8000-81-D80N-35-KIT 81" Hub Face 3.5" Tube · D80N Narrow

Overview

This Dexter 8K D80N axle beam kit is built for narrow 8,000 lb trailer running gear applications where the required configuration is an 81" hub face, 3.5" axle tube, straight spring axle layout, 4-bolt brake flange, wired beam, camber, and EZ Lube spindle setup. This is a kit listing, so loose spring perches are included with the axle beam.

R&P Service Insight

Axle beam listings need to be matched by measurement and configuration, not just by weight rating. Hub face, tube size, brake flange pattern, brake width, camber direction, and spring center all matter before installation.

  • Hub Face: This beam is listed as 81" hub face and should be matched to the trailer’s required hub face measurement.
  • Narrow Brake Setup: D80N indicates a narrow 8K configuration, commonly paired with narrow 8K brake and drum applications where the full system matches.
  • Loose Perches: The included spring perches ship loose by default and must be welded before the axle is placed into service.

R&P Knowledge Hub

Compatibility: Designed for compatible Dexter-style 8K D80N narrow axle applications where the 81" hub face, 3.5" tube, 4-bolt flange, and brake/hub configuration match.

Vehicle / System Fit: Trailer spring axle running gear using 8,000 lb components, narrow brake setup, flanged brake mounting, wired axle beam, and EZ Lube spindle configuration.

Installation Notes: Verify hub face, spring center, camber orientation, brake flange pattern, tube diameter, bearing set, drum/brake compatibility, and whether perches need to be welded before shipment.

Performance Insight: Camber is the intentional upward arch in the axle beam. When correctly installed, the camber arch faces upward so the axle can settle toward proper alignment under trailer load.

Brand & Fitment Note

Selling Brand: Dexter axle beam kit sold by R&P Carriages.

Application Reference: Dexter, D80N, 8K, narrow brake, EZ Lube, and related axle terms describe the verified axle style, rating, configuration, and application reference for this listing.

What This Means: This listing is for a Dexter 8K D80N axle beam kit with loose spring perches included. It is not a complete hub, drum, brake, U-bolt, or suspension hardware kit unless those items are specifically listed in the Included Components section.

Before Ordering: Verify measurements, flange pattern, brake compatibility, spindle/bearing requirements, hub face, spring center, camber direction, and included components before installation.

R&P Repair Insight

When replacing an axle beam, the safest match comes from measuring the old axle and confirming the brake/hub system already on the trailer. A correct weight rating alone does not guarantee fit.

  • Confirm Hub Face: Measure from hub face to hub face or verify the original axle tag/spec before ordering.
  • Confirm Brake System: Match the 4-bolt flange and narrow 8K brake/drum setup before transferring or ordering compatible components.
  • Confirm Camber: The cambered arch must face upward in the center of the axle when installed. Installing camber in the wrong direction can cause tire wear and alignment problems.

Features

Dexter 8K D80N Narrow Configuration

Built around the Dexter D80N narrow 8,000 lb axle configuration for compatible trailer running gear applications.

81" Hub Face with 3.5" Tube

Uses an 81" hub face measurement with a heavy-duty 3.5" axle tube for 8K axle beam applications.

Cambered Spring Axle Beam

Camber provides an upward arch in the axle beam so the axle can settle correctly under trailer load when installed with the arch facing up.

Wired, Flanged, EZ Lube Setup

Beam is listed with brake wiring, 4-bolt brake flanges, and EZ Lube spindle configuration for compatible 8K service setups.

Important -KIT Axle Notice

What Comes in the -KIT: Spring Perches Are Included Loose

This -KIT includes the axle beam and loose spring perches / spring seats. The spring perches are included as separate pieces. Included does not mean welded.

Spring perches ship loose by default. They are not welded to the axle tube before shipment unless the customer specifically requests perch welding in the order notes, provides the correct Spring Center measurement, and R&P confirms the weld-on request before the axle ships.

Repetition matters: If the listing says “spring perches included,” that means loose spring perches are included with the kit. It does not mean the spring perches are already installed, welded, or ready for towing.

Do not install or tow with loose spring perches. The perches must be measured, positioned, squared, and welded to the axle tube before the axle is placed into service.

When Will R&P Weld the Spring Perches?

R&P may weld the spring perches before shipment only when the order clearly gives us the information needed to do it correctly.

  1. The customer must request welded spring perches in the order notes.
  2. The customer must provide the Spring Center measurement.
  3. R&P must confirm the weld-on request before shipment.
Default rule: If the order does not clearly request welded perches and does not provide a Spring Center measurement, the spring perches ship loose.

How to Find Your Spring Center Measurement

Spring Center is the distance from the center of one leaf spring to the center of the opposite leaf spring. This is the measurement used to locate where the spring perches need to be welded on the axle tube.

  • Best method with old axle: Measure from the center of one existing spring perch / spring seat to the center of the opposite spring perch / spring seat.
  • Best method from the trailer: Measure from the centerline of the left leaf spring pack to the centerline of the right leaf spring pack where the axle sits.
  • Leaf spring center bolt method: Measure from the center of the center bolt / locating pin on one spring pack to the center of the center bolt / locating pin on the other spring pack.
  • Do not measure outside-to-outside. Spring Center is a center-to-center measurement.
  • Do not guess from deck width. Deck width can be helpful context, but it is not a substitute for the actual Spring Center measurement.

Axle Measurement Diagram

Use the axle measurement diagram below as a visual reference while confirming axle dimensions and installation details. Spring Center must still be measured center-to-center at the trailer’s leaf springs or existing spring perches.

Why Welding the Perches Matters

This image shows a real-world installation problem where loose spring perches were not welded before use and brake wiring was torn out. This is exactly why the axle must not be installed, towed, or placed into service while the spring perches are still loose.

Loose perches can allow the axle to move or rotate out of its intended installed position. That can damage brake wiring, brake components, suspension parts, tires, and the trailer. The perches must be properly welded before road use.

Question Answer
Are spring perches included in the -KIT? Yes. The spring perches / spring seats are included as loose parts.
Are the spring perches welded on by default? No. They ship loose by default.
Can R&P weld the perches before shipping? Only if the customer requests it in the order notes, provides the correct Spring Center measurement, and R&P confirms the request before shipment.
What measurement is needed for welding? Spring Center: center of one leaf spring / spring perch to the center of the opposite leaf spring / spring perch.
Can the axle be used with loose perches? No. Do not install, tow, or place the axle in service until the perches are properly welded.
What can happen if perches are not welded? Loose perches can allow the axle to move or rotate, which can damage brake wiring, brake parts, suspension components, tires, and the trailer.
Which way does camber face? If the axle is cambered, the arch goes up in the middle when installed.

Order Note Wording Customers Can Use

Customers who want R&P to weld the spring perches should put clear instructions in the order notes before checkout.

Example order note: “Please weld spring perches before shipping. My Spring Center measurement is ____ inches, measured center-to-center.”
Final reminder: Unless the order notes request welded perches, the Spring Center measurement is supplied, and R&P confirms the weld request, this -KIT ships with loose spring perches.
