Standard 2" Drive-In Trailer Hub Dust Caps 1.988" OD Solid Non-EZ Lube Zinc 2-Pack
Two-pack of standard 2" drive-in dust caps for trailer hubs with a 1.988" cap bore. These solid, non-EZ Lube caps are designed for standard hubs and help protect wheel bearings from dirt, moisture, and road debris.
Overview
The DC-200-2 is a technical trailer-industry SKU used to identify a two-pack of standard 2" drive-in dust caps. The actual outside diameter is 1.988", which is the common industry size for many standard trailer hubs. These caps are solid steel and do not include a center rubber plug, making them appropriate for standard hubs rather than EZ Lube hubs.
A properly fitted dust cap helps keep grease inside the hub and keeps dirt, grit, moisture, and road contamination away from the wheel bearings. Because this is a friction-fit part, the hub bore measurement is critical before ordering or installation.
R&P Service Insight
Dust caps are small parts, but fitment matters. A cap that is too loose can walk out of the hub during travel. A cap that is too tight may deform during installation and fail to seal correctly.
- Measure First: Confirm the hub bore is very close to 1.988" before installation.
- Standard Hub Only: This is a solid cap with no rubber plug or grease zerk access.
- Installation Tip: Drive the cap in by the shoulder/flange, not by striking the center dome.
R&P Knowledge Hub
Standard vs. EZ Lube: This is a solid, non-EZ Lube dust cap. It does not have a removable rubber center plug for accessing a grease zerk.
Seal Advantage: Because it is one continuous piece of steel, a solid cap can provide a tight seal without relying on a rubber plug that may dry out, loosen, or pop out over time.
Common Trailer Use: This size is commonly used on many 2,000 lb to 3,500 lb trailer axle hub applications, including many standard 4-bolt and 5-bolt hubs.
Measurement Sensitivity: If your hub bore is not within approximately 0.005" of the required size, the cap may be too loose to retain or too tight to install without damage.
Brand & Fitment Note
Selling Brand: R&P Carriages / standard trailer hub dust cap replacement listing.
Application Reference: Dexter, AL-KO, TruRyde, and similar trailer axle or hub names are used only as common application references where the hub bore and cap configuration match.
What This Means: This listing is for a standard 1.988" solid drive-in trailer hub dust cap two-pack, not a guaranteed OEM-branded item unless specifically stated and verified.
Before Ordering: Verify the hub bore measurement, cap style, axle/hub configuration, and whether your hub requires a standard solid cap or an EZ Lube cap with a rubber plug.
R&P Repair Insight
Dust caps are commonly replaced during bearing service, hub inspection, or after a cap has been dented, lost, loosened, or removed during maintenance. The goal is to protect the bearing cavity without distorting the cap or over-pressurizing the hub.
- Check for Grease Weeping: Grease escaping around the cap edge may indicate the cap is not fully seated or the hub bore is slightly oversized.
- Remove Carefully: Tap around the lip with a flat-head screwdriver and hammer, working in a circle until the cap releases.
- Avoid Overfilling: Do not pack the hub 100% full before installing a solid cap. Heat expansion can create pressure and may push grease past the rear seal.
Features
Solid Non-EZ Lube Design
One-piece solid cap with no center rubber plug. Designed for standard hubs where grease zerk access through the cap is not required.
1.988" Drive-In Fit
Actual outside diameter is 1.988", the common industry measurement for many standard 2" trailer hub dust cap applications.
Zinc-Plated Steel Construction
Zinc-plated cold-rolled steel helps resist corrosion from normal road moisture and grime.
Bearing Protection
Helps keep grease in the hub and helps keep dirt, grit, water, and road debris away from the trailer wheel bearings.
Technical Measurements & Dimensions
Important Fitment Note: These measurements are critical for a friction-fit part. If the hub bore is not within approximately 0.005" of the dust cap size, the cap may either be too loose to stay installed or too tight to install without deformation.

Standard Hub Design — Not EZ Lube
This dust cap is a solid cap for standard trailer hubs. It does not include the removable rubber plug found on EZ Lube style caps. If your axle has a grease zerk on the spindle that you access through the center of the dust cap, this is not the correct cap style for that function.
For standard hubs, the solid cap design helps create a simple barrier at the front of the hub, protecting the bearing cavity without an extra plug opening.
Installation & Maintenance
1. Cleaning & Preparation
Wipe the inside of the hub’s front lip using a clean rag and suitable solvent such as brake cleaner. Old grease, burrs, dirt, or grit can prevent the cap from seating properly.
Inspect the new cap flange before installation and confirm it is free of burrs, dents, or shipping oil.
2. Installation Method
Hold the cap level against the hub. Do not strike the center dome directly with a hammer, as this can dent the cap and may interfere with internal hub clearance.
Use a dust cap installation tool or a large socket, typically in the 30mm–36mm range, that rests on the outer shoulder or flange of the cap.
3. Seating the Cap
Tap the installation tool or socket with a rubber mallet until the shoulder of the cap seats flush against the face of the hub. Keep the cap square during installation to avoid cocking, bending, or distorting the flange.
4. Inspection & Removal
After service, inspect for grease weeping around the cap edge. This may indicate the cap is not fully seated or the hub bore is oversized.
To remove, gently tap the cap lip away from the hub using a flat-head screwdriver and hammer, working around the cap in a circle until it releases.
Important Grease Pressure Warning
Do not overfill the hub with grease before installing a solid dust cap. Unlike EZ Lube systems, a solid cap does not have a pressure relief point through a rubber plug.
If the hub is packed completely full, internal heat expansion during travel can create high pressure inside the hub. That pressure may force grease past the rear grease seal, which can contaminate brakes and reduce service life.
