This stainless steel wear sleeve installs over the spindle seal journal on trailer axles equipped with a #84 spindle. It provides a smooth, corrosion-resistant surface for the grease seal to ride against.
We have used this sleeve to repair standard Dexter and LCI 3,500 lb axles. It is a press fit, so the damage in your existing seal area cannot be extreme. However, in our shop, we have repaired many axles using this sleeve and pressed it on using a 1-3/4" ID bearing as a mandrel.
This style wear sleeve comes standard on many Dexter axles and is commonly found on 5-lug hub applications.
Why Wear Sleeves Matter
The grease seal rides directly on the wear sleeve — not the spindle itself. Any dent, groove, or impact damage to this surface can cause grease leakage or tear the seal during operation.
Stainless steel prevents rust, but physical damage from road debris or hub service can still require replacement.
