Wheel studs are press-fit fasteners that secure the wheel to the hub using lug nuts to create proper clamping force. The splined section of the stud forms an interference fit with the hub flange to prevent rotation under torque.
Stud damage can occur from corrosion, improper torque, or pulling studs into place using impact tools. When replacing a stud, thread size, spline diameter, and overall length must match the original hardware to ensure proper seating and load distribution. Hub flange condition should also be inspected for elongation or wear before installation.
